The Chinese country is governed under the constitution of 1982, the fith constitution since the accession of the Comunists in 1949. The legislature is the National Peoples Congress (NPC), consisting of deputies who are put to a term of five years. The NPC decides on national economic strategy, elects and removes high office holders, and can change Chinas constitution, along with the Communist party's politburo. The executive branch consists of the pesident who is head of state, and the premier who is head of Chinas government. The president is elected by the NPC for a five year term and is elegable for realection. The premier is nominated by the president and approved by the NPC. The country is devided into 22 provinces, 5 autonomous regions and 4 municipalities.Despite the consentraded power of the Communist party, the centeral governments power over the provinces and local governments is limited.
